My Story

MEET SANA STYLES

I’m Sana! I started doing hair as a small act of rebellion! I know!

Coming from an African immigrant background where I was encouraged to pursue what was considered the “respectable” careers; doctor, lawyer, nurse, engineer, or IT field - I felt it a rebellion to take a risk and go for my passion instead!

Once I got started, I quickly realized; it's more than hair! It’s getting someone ready for their wedding, an interview, a time to relax on vacation, a photo-shoot that highlights a landmark in their life; from maternity, engagement, graduation, branding, to a birthday, or even a moment of personal evolution that calls for a new look.

It’s making people feel put-together, confident, sexy and beautiful! I've seen people cry, laugh, look at themselves in the mirror with new confidence, sex-appeal, and admiration because I did their hair or I educated them and showed them how to care for their hair! This feels rewarding and makes my work have an even bigger purpose.

The Business
of Hair

I’ve been working professionally as a stylist for 7 years now. I am a self-taught braider, I've been braiding since age twelve as a hobby.

Entering the hair world as a self-learned braid-artist, I had limited knowledge on the vastness of the industry.

After 5 years of  predominantly creating various braids, twists, and faux locs styles, I enrolled into Cosmetology school. Having already attained a Bachelor's degree in Mass Communications years prior, I thought going back to school would be very challenging.

After some adjusting to routine, I fell in love with the hands-on training and scientific approach to hair. I learned the fundamentals of various styles; the art of cutting hair, and the process of chemical services.

Additionally, I found it beneficial to learn the building blocks of hair, growth patterns, memorize the various diseases and disorders of the scalp, hair, and even the bones of the face to better create flattering styles

In Feb, 2020, I officially earned my Cosmetology license! Immediately, I infused my new knowledge into my business and began educating my guests as well.

I continue to seek out and invest in training and workshops to hone my skills. I carry the belief; I’m a forever learner and student of my craft and most definitely of life!
